That's right. When the KC Cross season was all said and done TCPC came out on top as the winner's of the overall team prize for KBCXT. TCPC teammates toed the line at every single cross race (seriously!!!) and no other team posted better and more consistent results than we did.

Saturday Group Ride

The Colavita crew has a new meeting spot for the 9am Saturday ride. It's the Parisi Cafe inside Union Station. Pretty awesome. Honestly, how cool is it to roll your bike inside Union Station and then chill at the coffee shop while you wait for your pals roll in. Plus everyone gets a free shot of espresso and then 25% of anything else. Parisi Coffee rules! Tip them well, please.

9AM Saturday Ride

Join our team ride, Saturday morning, leaving the Parisi Cafe in Union Station. Ride leaves at 9am, so if you need a refreshment, come early.

Ride will be a pretty quick road ride, we recommend 23-28c tires with lots of air! Usually ride avg. speed is 17-20mph, but sometimes its faster, sometimes its slower. Bring your own tube/pump/levers, whatever you think you need. Hope to see you soon!

Aloha!

The cross season is winding down but Team Colavita Parisi Coffee is still going strong. Just take a look at the below photos from last weekend's double header in Topeka. A smoking fast course led to multiple team podium spots. Andrew Lyles had a great second place in the single speed race while Adam Keck took home second in the 3/4 race. Masters racer Erik Elving continued his strong run with a solid 3rd place on Sunday.

The midwest has had a taste of true cross conditions the past few weeks as both Jingle Cross in Iowa City, IA and the Boss Cross / MO State weekend out at the Raytown BMX course were total mud pit's. It felt so Belgina'esk that I kept waiting for Kevin Pauwels to come riding around the corner with Sven Nys hot on his heels. Check out the great pictures!

Cyclo-Cross... The Past Month for TCPC.

Has it really been a month since our last post?!?!

I guess we've been busy riding our cyclo-cross bicycles.

Here's a quick recap of the last 6 races.

Joules Cross I and II

This Lawrence, KS venue was fast with a few hills thrown in for good measure. The team took 4 wins on the first day with Charley Bartel winning the cat 4 race, Casey Buta winning the cat 3/4, Kent Woermann winning the singlespeed and Erik Elving winning the masters 60 plus race.

4 wins in one race!

Day two included repeat wins by Kent Woermann and Erik Elving. A great weekend for Team Colavita / Parisi Coffee.

Next up was Epic Shawnee Rescue Radcross in Shawnee, KS.

This tight course had a little of everything. Sand, pavement, hills and more sand.

Erik Elving won the masters 60+ while Adam Keck brought home the win in the cat 3/4 race.

Boss Cross #3 was next up and the fact that it was located at a BMX course made it as exciting as it sounds. Plus it was the 'Halloween race', which is always fun.

First the bad news, Team member Brett Shoffner broke his ankle and Andrew Lyles needed 3 stitches in his chin, i told you it was exciting. Now on the racing...

David Neidinger won an exciting cat 3 race while Kent Woermann continued his domination of the singlespeed category. Note to all singlespeeders, fear the Kent.

The 360 cup was set at what is quickly becoming a great venue, Shawnee's Stump Park.

This hilly course exposed any pretenders, and not suprisningly Erik Elving proved he is no pretender and once again emerged victorious in the Masters 60+ race. Note to all 60+ masters racer, fear the Erik.

Finally we have last Sunday's Boulevard Cup, also at Stump park in Shawnee, KS. Man, does KC have a great cross scene or what!!!

Boulevard is a cant miss race on the local calendar and this years edition was no exception. Fast racing and free beer made for a amazing day. The sand pit also helped, as many unfortunate soles found out.

Britton Kusiak finished a strong 6th in a stacked open field while Adam Keck made the podium of the 3/4 race, and, as if there was any doubt, Erik Elving again wont he masters 60+ race. Seriously, this guy is unstoppable. He's racing like someone half his age!!!

On top of these results the team has been doing an amazing job of coming out to the races and pushing themselves to their maximum. TCPC jerseys are at every race, in practically every category, and were racing hard and having fun. Keep up the good work!

You're very favorite cycling team put on a Cyclo-cross race this past weekend....

MANIONS CROSS!

Team Colavita / Parisi Coffee showed why it's one of the best teams around as the entire team came out in force to put on an outstanding event. Colavita provided the prizes, Parisi Artisan Coffee provided the caffein, Tall Grass Brewing provided the beer, and the great people of the midwest provided the racing!

TCPC had several wins over the weekend... Erik Elving won the masters 60+, Kent Woermann won the single speed race (both days!), Casey Buta won the 3/4 race, and David Neidinger won the Collegate race (both days!)

Tulsa Tough

Last week was the Tulsa Tough race in Tulsa Oklahoma. If I had to pick one word to describe Tulsa Tough it would be... totally awesome! Okay, that's two words. Here's another two words...

They work well together and have been a great addition to the team this year. We wont talk about how Kenny apparently and accidentally put his brother into the curb during the Saturday race. It happens.)

Your's truly has been busy racing, riding and moving, so i've been slacking on the updates as of late. That means that this week is going to be about house cleaning.

First up...

Andy Wiens takes 2nd overall in the Cat 4's at the Joe Martin Stage Race!!!

Andy showed that being a bad mofo can take you a long way despite having only a few road bike races under your belt. 2nd in the opening time trial and 2nd in the road race paved the way for an amazing performance against some top notch competition.

And to top it all off, Andy is the only one who demonstrates correct podium etiquette. Steve Tilford would be so proud.

Bonebender 3 / 6 Mountain Bike Race

Greetings!

File this post under the 'better late than never' category.

Two weeks ago three members of Team Colavita / Parisi Coffee headed out to the Clinton Lake mountain bike trails in Lawrence, KS to participate in the 3rd annual Bone Bender 3 / 6 mountain bike race. This race was not for the faint of heart.

Jon Sink, Jon Peck and Adam Keck are quickly becoming the mountain biking power trio for TCPC.

All three entered the 3 hour solo category and while there were no podium performances each one of them honored the jersey on their backs and rode with confidence and grace, even when they were eating dirt on one of the seemingly endless technical sections of the course. Like i said, this race was not for the faint of heart.

Bone Bender is quickly becoming a flagship race of the local mountain biking scene, and for good reason. It's a top notch event with top notch competition. TCPC will definitely be there next year!

Perry Roubaix

Were you at Perry Roubaix on Sunday? Team Colavita Parisi Coffee was... and we were standing on the top step of the podium.

Brian Lingenfel continues his early season tear by winning the men's cat 5 race while Andy Wiens, back from hibernation and sans cross beard, won the men's cat 4 race.

Way to go guys!

Joe Anderson, Levon Weaver and Britton Kusiak also made the trip and handled themselves beautifully on the rough and tumble gravel roads of Perry, KS.

God's Country Off Road Duathalon

This past Sunday three of Team Colavita / Parisi Coffee's finest made their way to Lawrence Kansas for the God's Country Off Road Duathalon.

Yes, it included running. Yes, TCPC knows how to run. Not necessarily fast, but we can run.

Jon Sink, Jon Peck, and Adam Keck flew the TCPC colors in Lawrence, KS and stamped their authority all over the race. Or at least i'm pretty sure we left some precious bodily fluids behind.

Perry Dam, NWA Spring Classic, Spring Fling, Bazaar Road Race, oh my!

Greetings TCPC fanatics!

It's been a while since our last update and honestly i cant even remember everything that's happened since then, but there was definitely bike racing! The results have been piling up, here are some of the highlights

Kenny Englert takes 4th in cat 4's at the final Perry Dam race of the year!

Here's the recap strait from the Horses mouth, or Kenny's mouth:

The first few laps of the seven(?) we did were without much action, just people chilling in the field. It stayed mostly together, and everyone looked comfortable. Then came the King of the Mountains lap. People wanted the points, and people were getting antsy up front. Still together once we got to the bottom of the hill, a few attempted attacks throughout the five mile lap that ended up failing. Then, the Collegiate guy who won the Cat 4 Spring Fling the day before (who nearly lapped the field, and for the record, plans to be a Cat 2 by the end of the season) attacked on the hill. I followed with about 3 other guys following me. We got a nice gap on the field by the top of the hill, and then made it even bigger going down it. We started rotating like crazy, dropped one of the guys who broke with us originally, and by the end of that lap we couldn't see the field. We kept going, and then the collegiate rider attacked again, on a flat section. I was spinning all over the place with my junior gears, killing myself trying to follow. We all tried to follow, but couldn't. Now it was just myself and two other guys with me, chasing. One of the guys with me, who was from Velotek, was in contention for first overall, and he needed just second place to win. He attempted an attack, but we caught him pretty fast. Still us three guys, chasing the collegiate rider who was minutes in front of us. We did this until the last lap, when the Velotek guy went again, this time for real. He got away. At this point the best I could get was 3rd, just me and another guy pulling each other along. We got to the last hill, and were both really eager to go. I was the first to try a move, but he caught up and ended up flying past me for 3rd. I cruised in for 4th, kinda upset I didn't get podium, but still happy with my best results as a Cat 4 so far this year.

Kent Woermann heads to Arkansas to do the NWA Spring Classic Road Race

Sorry, no photos for this one, but here is Kent's recap:

The race started fast with some cold dude taking off from the gun. A break of

3 got away about 1/3 of the way through the race but got brought back. At this point I was warmed up. That
break was countered shortly after and ended up staying away until the end.
The wind was the biggest challenge and made finding shelter somewhat
difficult. The final splits happened on a short climb about 5 miles from
the finish. The winning break was up the road still and what was left of
the peleton got split into 3 separate chase groups of 5-8 guys each. I was
in the second chase group going into the final kilometer and the third chase
group was closing in fast. With ~300 meters to go I jumped just as the 3rd
chase was making contact. I had jumped to early and blew up. 3-4 guys
ended up passing me right before the finish. I was frustrated for not
making the break or even the split for the 1st chase group. I had the legs
to do it but my poor positioning at the crucial moments of the race cost me
what could have been a much better finish. More importantly I didn't win
any prize money. The course is one of my favorite road race courses. I
will go back.

The final Spring Fling of the year and Ty Trammell takes 2nd overall in the cat 4 while Charlie Bartel takes 4th overall!

Spring Fling and Dam Race Wins!

Hey Everybody!

The road season is picking up speed and TCPC already has some stellar results, plus a few wins! Not only that, we're easily the best looking team in the peloton. Results are nice, but looks are forever.

Casey Buta won the cat 5 race at the second Perry Dam race and Ty Trammell won the cat 4 race at the second Spring Fling.

Casey rollled up to the start line of the Dam Race, " i felt fairly good" he said "my legs felt a little tight but not real bad." About halfway thru the race, "when i couldnt get a break away group gathered i made my move to catch the one guy who had broken off the front, it took me almost a full lap to catch him and when i did he cramped up so i rode the rest of the race as hard as i could go and just hoped to hold off the group behind me trying to catch up." He ended up doing two laps solo, and holding off the field to cross the line first!

Champagne and podium girls were everywhere.

Ty rode a smart Spring Fling and with the benefit of the points he acquired in the two prime's and at the finish he came out on top for the day. During the sprint for the first prime he noticed a rider drifting into him, "They didn't make contact," Ty said "because I went off in the grass to avoid collision. As soon as I went off and realized I was good, I decided I'm still going for it. So I bunny hopped back up to the road. It was about a 2 inch lip back to the road surface. Then I started grabbing gears, put my head down, and hammered it. I barely caught a guy to get 4th. I payed for it too. My heart rate went up to 198. The highest I've seen all year is 192. It took a couple of laps to recover."

Now that's what I call bike racing!

Great job Guys. And great job to everyone else who came out and raced these past two weekends. It's nice to win races, but having fun (and looking good) is what it's really all about.

Winter Training

Greetings TCPC fanatics!

The Road and Mountain bike season fast approaches, that means training is in order.

The team recently had two successful 'mandatory' training rides and the enthusiasm at these rides was palpable, or maybe that was just the salt and grit flinging into my mouth. Anyway, our team is big and so were the training rides. Everybody came out to try and see if they could keep up with Britton. We even managed to look professional and ride in a tight 2 x 2 formation... for a little bit.

Playing bikes is fun!

Volker bicycles at 39th and bell was the meeting place for this ride. Be sure to stop in and check out the store. Britton Kusiak is the owner and he's a strait shooter. He'll treat you right.

Nothing like the sight of an armada of Colavita / Parisi Coffee Jerseys lingering in Midtown. And as you can see, we allow non-team members to participate as well, although they are required to physically push us up every hill. We do this out of the kindness of our hearts, to make them faster. You're welcome.

The peloton heads east thru Midtown. Note the quizzical looks from the folks at the bus stop. Don't mind us. Just a band of bike nuts out for a Sunday stroll.

Sam Weinberg found out the hard way that you cant sprint into the back of someone. We rubbed some dirt on it, he was fine. Another exciting day at the office.

Team Signing Party at Cellar Rat

Hey Everybody!!!

2011 is off to a great start and once again Team Colavita / Parisi Coffee is leading the way.

This past Saturday was the team signing party at the Cellar Rat wine store. Teammates, new and old, gathered for a fun evening of bike talk and wine drinking. As one of our generous sponsors, Cellar Rat was more than willing to open it's doors (and wine bottles) and allow the team to use its event space for our annual party. Cellar Rat is the bomb. If you're ever in the crossroads neighborhood be sure to stop in at the Cellar Rat wine store, say hi, and buy some wine or cheese. 70% of their wine is under $20!

The signing party also serves as a way to get folks ready for the fast approaching cycling season. TCPC has had two great years but year number three is shaping up to be our best yet.

Several new members have brought fresh enthusiasm to the team and appear to be a perfect fit to our ever expanding band of bicycle nuts.

It's a long season and theres always a lot going on, but the three main team goals for TCPC's 2011 season are:

Ride faster than we did last year.

Continue to spread the positive vibes throughout the cycling community.

If everyone works hard to achieve these three goals than the season will be a resounding success.

Another exciting development that came from the signing party was the announcement that Team Colavita Parisi Coffee will be participating in the World Bicycle Relief charity. We all know the power of the bicycle, now lets show it to some less fortunate folks. Team member Chris Smith spearheaded the project and we have set a team fund raising goal of $4,020. That equals 30 bicycles that will "provide access to independence and livelihood through the power of bicycles"

This an excellent way for TCPC to harness it's passion for bicycles and direct it towards a great cause. Most of us just ride for fun, but to a lot of people in the world, receiving a bicycle can be a truly life changing event. Let's do our part to help make the world spin just a little bit easier.

So thats about it. The first races are in a few weeks and before you know it we're all going to be wearing shorts and short sleeves and pouring ice cold water on our heads. Okay, that may not happen so quickly, but it's time to get fast TCPC.

Hey Everybody,

2010 was an amazing year for Team Colavita / Parisi Coffee, or TCPC as i'll call it from this point forward. TCPC started in 2009, but 2010 saw an explosion in new members and enthusiasm. This enthusiasm punctuated the entire year. From the early season training rides, to the humid road races, to the very last cross races... TCPC was there and they made sure to bring the lovin.

So lets take a look at some of the highlights.

The early season calls for big miles with big groups. I believe this day's destination was Longview Lake.

The early season was also about mountain bikes and the Bone Bender mountain bike race was one true highlight. The trails at Smithville Lake were fast and frantic plus there was a HUGE turnout, it was an epic day. Here Brett Shoffner takes care of the final preparations. Shoot, he probably built those trails!

Our fearless leader, Britton Kusiak, had a tremendous year. It started with a 3rd place finish at Bone Bender and continued throughout the entire season, road and cross. That's called racing strong all year long!

Matt Ochs reminds us that it's about time for road bikes as he scorches the tuesday night crit in his white Volker Bicycles jersey. Matt shot to the top of the local racing scene in 2010, including winning a few road races along the way! Watch out KC.

Still more mountain bike racing as Jon Peck and Britton prepare for the Robidoux Roundup in St Joe, MO. Jon Peck was everywhere this year, including sandbaggerkc! I'm pretty sure he get's the award for most races. That's called hardcore!

David Neidinger had a great season in 2010, including top 10 in the Cat 3 Missouri State Road Race in Sainte Genevieve, MO. David would take that form and in a few weeks time complete the legendary Dirty Kanza 200 race. That's a tough race!

Sam Wineberg took a narrow 2nd place finish in the cat 4 race at the Missouri State Championships. This was just part of his stellar road season which included a few wins and culminated with Sam being ranked the #1 overall road racer in Kansas! That's fast!

The Tulsa Tough race in Tulsa, Oklahoma is one of the biggest road races in the region. Several of TCPC's finest made the trek south to show those Okies how it's done. Check out Britton during Saturday's 1/2 race. Not bad for his first Crit of the year.

Matt gives it everything on cry baby hill. Sunday's race at Tulsa Tough is a total party, everyone should go race it at least once. Is that jug band music i hear?

Group rides are always in abundant supply with TCPC. Look at that great 2 x 2 formation!

The Tour of Kansas City was the next big event on the road Calendar and TCPC came out in big numbers to support the home race. Here Phillip Wilkerson demonstrates one way to stay cool on a hot day.

Michael Ellis at the very end of a tough Cliff Drive stage. Michael had an outstanding road season including two wins! One of which was at his first cat 4 race. by the end of the season he was the #1 ranked Cat 4 Kansas Crit racer! Must be the star tattoo.

The Tour of Lawrence is one of the top road races around, here Brett floats up a climb so effortlessly that he decides he only needs one hand. He rode like that for the rest of the race.

Spencer Martin and David lead the cat 3 field during the Tour of Lawrence downtown Crit. I'm sure they both would have gotten 1st place if not for that crash that took out half the field.

Ty Trammell finds time to joke around during the 6 / 12 hr RIM mountain bike race. A word to the wise, 6 / 12 hr mountain bike races are not to be taken lightly, especially when the humidity is 1,000 percent!!! Hydrate.

What can i say about the Huffy Hustle, perhaps the best team party... ever. Bonus points for racing barefoot.

Once the road bike races were done it was time for Cyclo-cross. And guess what? TCPC put on a Cross race this year! Manions Cross, baby! All who attended would agree, it was a smashing success. Check out Jake and Jon as they demonstrate the proper way to ride out of a barn. Gitty-up!

Our tye-dyed president presides over proceedings before the men's elite race at Manions Cross. The entire day was awesome, pat yourselves on the back TCPC, it was your hard work that made it happen! Special props to DanO the tye-dyed president!

Manions was only the beginning of what would turn out to be a spectacular Cross season for TCPC. Check out Jake getting a fast start at Smithville Cross. Jake was present at the sharp end of just about every cross race, and when it was all said and done he was the #1 ranked Kansas Cat 4 Cyclocross racer!

The night time cross race at Topeka's heartland park is not to be missed. Kent Woermann and Britton made sure to leave their mark on the single speed race. By the end of the season Britton would be named the overall winner for both the mens open and single-speed categories for Series 60 cross. Bam!

Check out Casey Buta, pre cross bike. He was always knocking on the door with that Mountain bike but once he got a cross bike he blew the doors clean off. Casey dominated cross in 2010, becoming the Kansas State cat 4 champion and then upgrading to a cat 3 and continuing to win races. At last count he was at 4 wins. And they say it's not about the bike!

What?!? Manions 2!!! That's right, the first one was so great they asked for an Encore. Michael Ellis shows Mr. Stitches whose boss.

In late November several members of the Team bundled up and headed north for The Jingle Cross Rock Cyclo-cross race in Iowa City, IA. Jingle Cross is amazing. Who wouldn't love 3 day's of cross craziness? Check out Matt O'neill on day 2 as he demonstrates the proper way to ride thru a stable. Gitty-up!

Andy Wiens used his Jinglecross form to power to victory on a fast course at the Kansas State Champs the following week. Andy had an amazing cross season and this win was the cherry on the top! Wait, he shaved the beard.

So that's it. 2010 was quite the year. Now let's go out and make 2011 even better!

After winning a couple Kansas championship trophies in cross, we have been silent for a while, rebuilding for the 2010 season. Mountain and road schedules are up and we are preparing for an even more successful season!

Plenty of rides have been scheduled. A 1:00 p.m. ride leaving from Volker on Sundays has been the most popular. The ride is for anyone, not just members of the team, so if you are interested in meeting us, or just scoping out your competition, please join us. We are also doing lots of trail rides and weeknight rides as well.

We have grown alot over the last year since we started. Our membership has grown to 50. We look forward to seeing everyone out racing this Spring!

"For Pfannenstiel, it is the first time he has raced in Iowa.

The former rugby player is in his first season of competitive cycling.

"It was a super fast race," said Pfannenstiel. "There was a lot of bumping, a lot of shoving from the get-go so you just tried to keep in a line and keep steady. I knew it was going to come to a sprint because no breakaways were sticking."

While rugby is an intense, physical sport, Pfannenstiel said cycling is even more so.

"Cycling is more intense. It's way more intense," Pfannenstiel. "You're pushing yourself a lot harder than you do in rugby.

"I really love (cycling). I love my team, Team Colavita/Parisi Coffee. My teammates are awesome. It's a great sport."

Team Colavita/Parisi wants to give a big thanks to Chris Locke and Co. for organizing such a great MTB duathlon. Rider Marcus Skala took 2nd in the mens 20 - 29 sport class and 3rd over all. Nate Schotanus took 11th in the mens 20 - 29 sport. In the MTB only division, rider Adam J. Keck won the beginner MTB class. Brett Shoffner was faced with mechanical troubles and was forced to end the race early. Below are some highlight photos from the race taken by of Roger and Anna.

Congratulations to Eric Stull for placing 4th in the overall Category 4/5 field and winning the 5 race. Eric Schaumberg was also 4th in the 4 field too.
Britton Kusiak also placed 3rd in the 1/2/3 field.

After running a 10k in the morning Jane of our women's team competed in two races at the Women's Crit up in Leavenworth. She competed in both the 3/4 and 4 race, winning the 4's!

8 Racers went down to Lenexa for the Tuesday Night Training Crit. The race was great with many Colavita/Parisi racers getting good results and showing good form for this weekends stage race, The Velotek Grand Prix.

First road race of the season. Weather held out nicely and only felt a few drops for the whole day...really windy though!

Eric Shaumberg, John Knight, Brad Williams, Britton Kusiak, Joe Anderson, Eric Stull, and Steve Vockrodt all were in attendance. The races were great for training and getting those first of the season jitters out of the way.

Weather was perfect for the Devil's Revenge

The Devils Revenge was the first of the Fat Tire Series and turned out to be a fantastic race! Located at Clinton Lake State Park, the it consisted of a 3.75mi run/ 10.75mi MTB ride on rocky single track, and a 400m sprint to the finish. This was Marcus Skala's first MTB race and he took 3rd out of the big guys and single speeders (took 1st in the Clydesdale). More on Saturday's crit race soon...
